Our Journey to Gluten-Free Baking

"As a mother of six, I have a passion for feeding my family quality food. Baking for gluten-sensitive people can be challenging, and I have not been satisfied with the Gluten Free inventory at grocery stores. Feeling frustrated by the limited availability of gluten free products, I turned to gluten free baking from scratch—not an easy endeavor! Baking gluten free from scratch comes with its own set of challenges, and I still missed the fluffy, delicious taste of gluten products. But when I tasted the scones, cookies, and gluten free pies made by my sister-in-law, Ellynn, I knew that her gluten-free baked goods were special and needed to be shared with the world. Ellynn has spent countless hours experimenting in her kitchen, inventing mix recipes for cookies, scones, pie crusts and more; and they are nothing short of perfection. I believe that the gluten free market has never been more ready for quality, delicious products that are either pre-made or easily baked at home. And for those of you gluten free bakers, an easy, tasty gluten free bake mix is a dream come true!"

"Hippocrates is a name I bet you have not heard in a while. He was a doctor and philosopher from Ancient Greece credited with the earliest formulation of an oath of medical ethics. Graduates of medical school even today take some variation of the “Hippocratic Oath.” One of his most famous lines is “Do no harm,” but only slightly less well known is this: “Let food be thy medicine and medicine be thy food.” In My Sister’s Kitchen we believe that food can indeed be medicine. An old saying I heard repeatedly while growing up was, “an ounce of prevention is worth more than a pound of cure.” As we got older our family discovered we were gluten sensitive. In fact, testing revealed I have Non-Celiac Gluten Sensitivity. No wonder I had brain fog, fatigue, and a host of other symptoms! These symptoms had become my “normal.” When I finally switched over to a gluten-free diet, I began my physical and mental wellness revolution. Unfortunately, the gluten-free options for baking at home are either baking from scratch (always laborious and often disappointing), or they are pre-packaged mixes loaded with sugar. My wife, a busy homeschooling mother of six, was also tired of disappointing gluten-free baking results and sugary, sandy mixes. In fact, it was her idea that we team up to share my sister’s baking mixes with the world. Lucky for us, my sister Ellynn Rose was determined that bad baked goods would not be her future. Lucky for you we are bringing her better-than-gluten, gluten-free baking mixes straight from her kitchen to yours! Additionally, My Sister’s Kitchen mixes are also sugar free, because you should be able to decide what sweetener to use."

Achieving Delicious Gluten-Free Recipes

This realization pushed me to experiment with different gluten-free flour and baking techniques to create a product that could rival traditional wheat-based recipes. After countless hours of trial and error in the kitchen, I am proud to say I have achieved my goal. In fact, I’ve been able to create gluten-free baked goods that often exceed the taste and texture of their original counterparts.
